Description: Social Movements such as the Civil Rights movement, the anti-Vietnam War movement, and the Women's Rights movement have brought about new legislation and changed society as we know it. In this course we will learn why, over the course of the second half of the twentieth century and into the first decade of the twenty-first century, millions of people have taken to the streets to demand change. We will learn how they organized and how they changed history. We will begin our readings just before World War II, and make our way to the present day. All of the movements we will study intersect other social movements going on both in the United States and in other parts of the world.
