SCST 591 - Principles of Teaching Social Studies II (3).
Description: Students will explore management strategies, with more advanced application of strategies related to planning and instruction in the social studies classroom. Emphasis will be placed on instructional strategies that address the needs of multiple learners while focusing on the content in state and national standards. Further, exploration of appropriate assessment strategies will be incorporated into the unit design process. Special attention will be placed on the teaching of History. This course advocates an integrated model for teaching social studies; therefore, students will explore ways to incorporate Government, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, and Geography into History courses. Specifically designed for students planning to pursue secondary social studies certification or middle level social studies certification. Prerequisite: Admission to MAT program and to Teacher Ed; C- or better in SCST 390 or 590.
