LGST 300 - Introduction to Legal Studies (3).
Description: LGST 300 is an introduction to legal studies from a multidisciplinary perspective, exploring historical or contemporary aspects of the content, operations, and effects of law in society. This course provides a background in the American legal system with emphasis on values, terminology, and legal analysis. Case studies or interpretive themes will then provide analytical focus to this foundation. Because it is taught by different people from various professional and academic backgrounds, LGST 300 includes a dynamic mix of content and issues broadly related to studying the purpose and functions of law in society. Prerequisite: WRIT 101. Notes: This course is required for those students who intend to complete a minor in Legal Studies.

Description: LGST 350 provides in-depth consideration of a specific topic of particular concern in legal studies. Course will be offered under various topics. Prerequisites: Overall GPA of at least 2.0, and either LGST 300 or Permission of Instructor. Notes: Courses may be repeated for credit under different topics; however, elective courses used toward a minor in Legal Studies must include at least two different course-designators.

Description: LGST 471 provides on-the-job training in a professional field related to Legal Studies. For Legal Studies minors only. Prerequisites: Overall GPA 2.5, minimum of 24 earned undergraduate semester hours. An Internship Learning Contract (distributed by the Career & Civil Engagement office) must be approved by both the Department Chair and the Program Coordinator, and submitted to the Center for Career & Civic Engagement prior to enrollment. Notes: Courses may be repeated for credit; however, a maximum of 3 hours may be applied toward a minor in Legal Studies. The internship requires 50 work hours.
