Description: Study of medieval art and architecture of Europe from the Early Christian through the Gothic periods. The architecture of great churches, sculpture, stained glass, illuminated manuscripts, textiles, and metalwork are considered within their social, historical, and religious contexts. Topics such as medieval visuality, cross-cultural exchange, monasticism and pilgrimage, and the technical development of Gothic architecture will be explored.
