Description: This course examines a key moment in recent world history. Not only were millions of soldiers and civilians slaughtered in the field of battle, but European hegemony over the world was destroyed, major states were destroyed or reshaped, new states were created (Iraq, Yugoslavia) whose artificial nature continues to destabilize world politics, new ideologies were brought to power for the first time during or just after the war (communism, fascism), and the stage was set for an even greater war just twenty years later.
Prerequisite: Prerequisite for all 300 and 500 level courses in History is sophomore status or permission of the department chair; or graduate status.
