Description: This course surveys the history of photography from its technical origins up to contemporary times, tracing its perception as a purely mechanical or documentary process in the early 19th century, through its elevation to the status of 'fine art' today. Class discussions on topics related to the course material and guest lectures by practicing photographers will be included as time permits.
Notes: Offered once every two years.
Prerequisites: ARTH 176.
