Description: This course provides an overview of sport in the United States with primary focus on the 1840-Present time period. Sport will be examined as both an outgrowth of education and as an economic enterprise. Selected sports will be studied from the standpoint of their development, influential people and governance. The roles of women and minorities in sport will be studied along with the factors influencing their participation.
